The Simple Needs of Man on One Hand

Oh, Good Lord,
We keep wanting the same simple things.
Why do we think that we are so complicated?
The only problem is that we don’t give ourselves
The simple things that all humans need.

Security.
Comfort.
Peace.
Good food.
Love to ourselves and gentleness to others.
A relationship with the Divine.

Don’t let me fool myself so long, anymore Love.
Remind me what I need.
Remind me that I can count my only real desires
On the fingers of one hand.

In the leaf-laden byer of your security,
In the lap of your simple, magnificent world,
Let me count my needs on the red-tipped fingertips of one hand.
One of on each my five fingers:
Thumb, security.
Index, a relationship to the Divine.
Middle finger, the pillar of Comfort.
Ring finger, good food.
My small finger, gentle peace.
Love to ourselves and gentleness to the world, my whole hand.
